The story follows Issei Hyodo, a dim-witted, lecherous second-year high school student who is killed by a girl on his first date ever. Issei is reincarnated as a devil, and from that day forward, he serves as an underling of Riasu, a high-level devil who is also the prettiest girl on Issei's campus.
Just a heads up to everyone reading; I normally do not watch ecchi/harem animes. I am not saying I don’t watch these types of animes at all; it is just that I prefer more serious shows. I however heard nothing but fantastic things about this particular anime so I decided to give it a try! J I watched the complete season before writing this review. I am going to be as honest as possible because I love you guy here at nwanime.com and you deserve the truth! Again I do not normally prefer this genre of anime and this is MY OPINION!!! Unlike most ecchi/harem animes I have seen in the past, this anime had a somewhat interesting premise which caught my attention, regardless of it being unoriginal. The characters and plot although very stereotypical , were very amusing and a found myself laughing frequently (especially the scenes with the main characters parents). The one thing I do have to mention is the unholy amount fanservice. This anime has tons of fanservice, even for echhi!. It is basically softcore ***** so just a heads up for the younger viewers! I personally did not like how it was so overbearing but maybe that is why this anime is so popular. I felt as if it interfered with the main focus of the story. If the producers spent all that effort in other ways such as developing the characters further or building more dramatic tension it could have been much better in my opinion. BUT HEY! It is an ecchi anime. Aside from that it was a fun anime that I enjoyed, it had great animation, nice music and a fun cast. Overall a guilty pleasure anime that you can enjoy and have tons of laughs. Just not one of those animes you “HAVE” to watch.
Kind of a shame that it's only 12 episodes long. Considering most of the reasons it wasn't as popular as most anime was because that the characters weren't as developed, but how can they when there's only 12 episodes. It's got a lot of good aspects and reminds me of many shows such as Ikki Tousen, Reborn!, Dragon Crisis, Beelzebub, and the list goes on and on. The plot can catch a person's attention but I'm guessing people lost interest in the first 3 episodes. The light novel has a lot of material that it could probably have 2 more seasons. I recommend it, if it seems kind of boring just watch through it, it will be worth it.
Highschool dxd starts off like an regular ecchi anime. It has alot of nudity and the promise of a solid story, but as most of us know the promising story doesn't happen with em. That's the case with this anime till you reach episode 5 or so then you not only see the main characters promise, but the animes promise starting to show as well. The story, action, romance comedy all start to come together and you start to realize this anime isn't going to be just another show you watch one time it's going to be one of those animes where you know your going to watch it multiple times. The first season was great, it not only needs a 2nd season it DESERVES a 2nd season. I would highly recommend you watch this anime or your really missing out.
